AWP Safety Welcomes Michelle Marsh as Senior Vice President of EHS
North Canton, Ohio – AWP Safety (AWP), the North American leader in traffic safety services, proudly announces the appointment of Michelle Marsh as senior vice president of EHS. In this role, Michelle will drive the company’s “safety first” culture by leading its Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) program and leveraging cutting-edge technology and data analytics to enhance safety performance across the enterprise.
“Michelle has 25 years of experience spearheading EHS initiatives and developing programs that align closely with our mission,” said Jarrod Wachter, chief operating officer at AWP Safety. “Her leadership will help us push even further in our mission to protect and support the people who make everything we do possible. She’ll be shaping our safety strategy, training and compliance efforts every step of the way.”
Michelle draws on her extensive background from her years at American Electric Power (AEP) – a longstanding AWP Safety customer and one of the largest utility providers in the nation. Most recently, she served as vice president of safety and health at AEP, where she led a team of 160 safety professionals and managed enterprise-wide EHS initiatives for more than 30,000 employees and contractors across 11 states. Thanks to her steady leadership, AEP notably bettered its Serious Injury and Fatality metrics, demonstrating her capacity to champion robust safety protocols.
Throughout her time at AEP, Michelle pushed for a proactive safety culture, making sure teams had the tools and data they needed to spot risks early and act decisively. She is also well-versed in managing big-picture programs, including developing contractor safety protocols, navigating OSHA regulations and spearheading major risk reduction efforts.
“AWP Safety is making work zones safer in new and exciting ways, and I’m eager to jump in and build on that progress,” said Marsh. “You can’t move forward if you’re constantly looking over your shoulder—safety keeps us focused on the road ahead.”
Michelle holds a Master of Science in occupational hygiene and occupational safety and a Bachelor of Science in secondary education with a concentration in chemistry and general science, both from West Virginia University.
With over 7,800 AWP Safety team members securing more than one million work zones annually, Michelle’s appointment underscores a commitment to technology-driven innovation and industry leadership as the company continues to expand its services.
