The Age of Intelligence
Everything is “smart!”
“Smart” technology is the new norm around the globe, and most everyone has some kind of “smart” device these days. It makes me feel old when I think back on the days of flip phones, dial-up connections, and tape players. (It makes me feel even older knowing that some of you readers have no idea what those items are). Nonetheless, it is amazing to see how far we have come, and it is exciting to think about where we are headed next.
“Smart” devices are more than just cool to have, they also provide almost any information at the touch of a button, or more conveniently, at the mention of the name “Alexa” or “Siri.” This technology has not only revolutionized the way that we communicate and find information, but it has changed every aspect of our lives. For example, if you go to your local Walmart, you will see “smart coffee makers,” “smart registers,” and on and on.
Whether we realize it or not, we are living in the Age of Intelligence!
Technological innovation is on the rise! In the last 2-3 years, we have seen “smart” technology make its way into the transportation industry. With “smart” cars, we saw how technology helped to make roads safer by reducing the risk of accidents and injuries. Now we see the implementation of “intelligent work zones” across the United States with the goal of protecting both highway workers and motorists.
Our AWP Texas locations are spear-heading this “smart” road technology by offering traffic signage with sensors and radar-like units. This technology is most useful for DOT, highway work. These “smart” signs count cars, determine if traffic is slowing or stopped due to construction and then flash the appropriate message to a portable warning sign ahead of the work zone. Sometimes the signs will warn drivers to switch lanes, at other times it will alert travelers when traffic is stopped.
In this Age of Intelligence, we are excited to do our part! We are even more excited for the safety that this technology will bring. We can proudly say “everything is smart, including AWP.”
